An amazing piece and incredibly rare! This is an authentic Louis Icart (1888-1950) oil painting called Venetian Shield and is painted on a shield shaped canvas and attached to a larger frame. This is from his Red Period where he was inspired by Degas & Monet and my interpretation, what I see is a gondola dropping people off at Chioggia castle in Venice for a super event/ball. It just looks like it's on fire!
Apparently he did only a handful of these Venetian paintings and although I don't see a signature, my research and the gallery certificate attached on back confirms it and I guarantee it's authenticity.
It is in very good condition for its age (circa 1929) with some crackling and a small loss of paint as you can see in my photos. This will have be shipped very carefully if sold so that it may arrive to its new home safe and sound. It will be insured too as part of the freight costs. I will be open to fair offers.
Provenance: This is from The Great Dane Art Gallery in PA and was purchased years ago by a wealthy local art enthusiast who amassed an incredible art collection before her untimely passing.
