Native American Basket Cedar Bark Tsimshian
This is an original basket made by the woman of the indigenous people of the Northwest Coast of British Columbia. Identified as Tsimshian, similar work done by Tlingit. It is a lidded basket, with a blind imbrication, the decoration shows on the outside but not in the inside, a sort of supplementary weave. It is made with cedar bark and grass, with a diamond design. It would have been made for the tourist trade, in the early 1900’s.
