Northwest Coast Native Button Blanket Apron Kwakwaka'wakw
This is made from applique red wool on faded navy blue wool, decorated with mother of pearl buttons native made Apron. The central design is a family Crest, a Killer Whale. These are used in dances in ceremonies and potlatches. This is an apron worn around the waist, it would have been worn with a robe . It is all hand sewn. Circa 1950 or earlier from Vancouver Island. It measures 30 x 23 inches, the ties are 24 inches long.
