Fern Samuels (American, 1931-2015) “Above and Below”, circa 1980’s, mixed media painting and collage on paper, signed lower right. Framed in wood frame, matted under plexiglass. Measures 45in x 33in framed and 39in x 27in image only. Condition: Painting in excellent vintage condition. Frame has minor nicks, mat board has some stray black pigments trapped under the plexi. These are minor and noticeable only under scrutiny.
Bio: Samuels received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has had many solo exhibits in national museums and galleries. Samuels is one of the founders of A.R.C. Gallery, one of the first women's cooperative galleries in the United States. Samuels was an associate Professor of Art at Columbia College, Chicago, where she received a faculty development grant.
