June is the time for weddings. That was as true at the turn of the twentieth century as it is in the current twenty first century. This lovely celluloid picture album not only reflects that earlier era, it includes wedding photographs from those bygone years. Photos included are of brides and grooms, wedding parties, and proud parents.
The album cover features a heart-shaped vignette of a young woman in an open window with Cupid, bow and arrow in hand, waiting outside to send love her way. Pink roses and greenery adorn the remainder of the cover while the back is composed of roses in amber color on a background of deep brown. The spring loaded clasp is fully functional. The scroll bordered interior pages include 12 double sided pages (hold 24 photos) whose openings for pictures measure 4" by 5 1/2". There are 2 double sided pages (capacity of 16 pictures) with opening dimensions of 2" by 3 1/4".
The outer cover measures 10 1/2" by 8". Eleven wedding or wedding related photographs have been included. These are from the general area near St. Paul, Minnesota, and date from the later 1800's to the very early 1900's. There are many pages remaining which can hold your family's wedding photos, and contemporary sepia toned photos would be fun to add.
This album is in excellent condition with the exception of celluloid loss on the edge of the spine and on one corner. As is the case with most albums of this era, there is some tearing of the areas where pictures are inserted. Of the larger format pages, 16 of the 24 picture holders exhibit no tearing. Most of the smaller openings show no signs of tearing.
