An early German, possibly Nuremberg, brass alms dish with a gadrooned central boss and punched stylized cross decoration. There are traces of rubbed text, illegible from years of handling and polishing.

This exceptional early dish measures an impressive 15 1/8" in diameter by 1 1/2" H. It is in very good condition. There are no creases or splits in the brass and there has been no restoration. A hanging loop has been added at a later date, probably in the Georgian or Victorian era.

Several of these alms dishes are pictured and discussed on pages 395-397 of 'The Brass Book American, English and European Fifteenth Century though 1850' by Peter, Nancy and Herbert Schiffer.
