I love this piece. Maybe I love it so much because I have an adult size French toilette in my home (see photo) that is a favorite of mine. I use it to display my French trompe l'oeil house.
This miniature French toilette was made circa 1860-70. The toilette is painted tin....and it actually works! There is a built-in water reserve located in the back of the piece. When it is filled with water, the water comes out the front water spout! There is a mirror in a frame at the top of the piece. The 2 drawers open for storing necessities. There is a towel bar on each side. The spout is brass and made in the image of a swan's head. The waste bucket is located at the base of the piece. Decorative scroll work abounds!
I have never seen another. I think it is a wonderful piece that works well in a display with a French Fashion Circa 1860-70...like a Rohmer.
Size: Height 11 1/2", Height to counter with washbowl 6 1/4", width 7" not including towel bars.
Condition: Overall excellent with normal paint losses.
A French child would have been delighted to play with a working miniature of the toilette used in her home during this period. Perhaps, your inner child would like to do some playing with this fabulous miniature French toilette, too!
