This bold and beautiful, gold washed, sterling silver and enamel brooch was created by the celebrated Norwegian silversmith, Aksel Holmsen. The reverse carries his mark, which represents jeweller's bench tools. His workshop was in operation from 1904-1971. This piece is early and my best estimate is circa 1910-1920.
The brooch measures a generous 2¼” (5.9cms) across and weighs 35.8 grams so is a very substantial piece.
The front is gently domed and the edge is prettily scalloped. The background is enamelled in gleaming back. In the centre is a pair of beautifully painted yellow roses with green leaves .
On the bloomed gold washed back is a solid old style c clip. The back is bears the mark of Aksel Holmsen together with ‘925S’.
This brooch is in truly excellent condition with no chips or cracks to the enamel. All the gold wash is intact too. This extremely rare and exceptional brooch will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
