This beautiful French charm or pendant, was made by the company, Bressans, in the eastern French city of Bourg en Bresse. Bressans has been making beautiful enamel jewellery since 1850. They work with French 800-1900 silver and 18 carat gold. The designs are hand crafted to a unique method. This one bears difficult to read hallmarks but tests as f800-900silver quality. I am dating it to circa 1900.
It measures 20mms across, including the side knobs, and weighs 3.2 grams.
This beautiful piece may be small but it has maximum impact. It is round and gently domed.
The background is emerald green enamel with lovely criss cross texturing beneath the enamel which catches the light. In the centre is a white enamel cross with ‘jewels’ of translucent red enamel. Around it is a decoration in 18 carat gold flowers and curlicues. The enamel is bezel set in silver with little silver knobs all around the edge.
At the top is a solid ring with the crab mark. Attached is a bail to hold the chain. The back is plain silver with traces of an original gilt finish.
This delightful charm/pendant is in excellent antique condition. with enamel in perfect condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
