This most attractive, Scottish agate pin dates to the late Victorian period. This is the time when. thanks to the influence of Queen Victoria, Scottish items were all the rage. Many of these items were set in silver or gold. However this more modest piece is also very beautiful.
In a diamond shape ,it measures 1 and 5/8” (4.3cms) by 1 and 1/8” (2.8cms). It weighs 7.3 grams.
The base is a piece of translucent, banded agate . Across the centre is a double white band. One side is dark , warm browns and the other much lighter shades of coffee. If you hold it to the light both sides are translucent. In the centre is a blackish brown, raised embellishment with white striations.
On the reverse is a brass bar with a c clip and pin.
In excellent antique condition, this lovely piece would look great on a lapel. It will arrive in a gift box.
