Antique early 19th century Grand Tour marble carving paperweight sculpture of a sleeping baby boy figurine after Francois Duquesnoy. This same depiction was used by Wedgwood in basalt in the 1790's.
Duquesnoy was a 17th century Flemish Baroque sculptor who was active in Rome for most of his career.
Measures 5 1/4" long x 2 7/8" wide x 2 5/8" tall. Good condition consistent with age and use - chips on the base and a tight hairline on the baby's back - these do not detract from the appearance and stability of the piece.
