This is a vintage print by the American artist, Bessie Pease Gutmann (1876-1960). She was known for her portraits of children and infants. This is titled at the bottom center "Mischief." At the lower left is "729(c) Gutmann & Gutmann Made in U.S.A." At the lower right is the artist's signature in the plate.
This dark haired girl is often paired with a blonde haired girl titled Sunbeam. A reference book on Gutmann's works by Karen Choppa indicates it is the same girl with different hair. Both were originally published in 1924.
It is housed in a round Barbola style wood frame with raised painted flowers at the top, bottom and both sides. The frame has glass, a dust cover, and a wire for hanging.
Size: The frame is 15 1/2 inches round.
Condition: I notice some dust or paper flecks under the glass, but have not taken it apart to try to clean it. The frame has a scrape on the right side. The left side of the print has a slightly darker area near the glass, which is a little hard to see. I note a small amount of movement in the glass when it is moved from side to side. But the glass covers the entire print.
