British Victorian pastel and pencil drawing of three siblings on a garden terrace by John Hayter and dated 1844. This charming painting of two beautiful sisters and their baby sister or brother is probably a preparation sketch for a large oil painting. The eldest girl is holding a spade and laurel branch. The middle girl is seated and holds a kitten. The baby is reclining on a cushion. All three are dressed in very fine clothing and obviously from a distinguished family. The painting is mounted in its original gold frame without glass. There is a small piece of missing gesso in the bottom left corner.
