This cross-shaped brass letter opener has the date 6/4 1919 inscribed on one side of the handle and the the initials DV on the other side. It also has inscribed the Danish words "Erindring om (rememberance of)" before the date. I've checked with some of my Danish friends and the date doesn't seem to have any particular nationwide significance, nor do the letters. The best guess is that the letter opener was a confirmation gift for a young man.

The opener is about 9 inches long and 1 1/4 inches wide across the handle. It is in very good antique condition. There are usage marks and some light pitting, but overall it is quite a handsome letter opener. weight 140 gr.
