SEE MODIFIED TEXT ON THIS REDUCED ITEM: The prancing horse is the coat-of-arms of a family. The item has an interesting set of marks on the bottom, see pictures this description kindly sent by a Ruby Lane watcher: SHEFFIELD SILVER CO - Brooklyn NY
Incorporated in 1908. Trademark registered in 1919. Became a division of Reed & Barton Silversmiths in 1974 Thank you so much Nick.
In good condition for the age this would make a nice gift for someone special....I find men are particularly hard to buy for. Base is 9 inches by 4 inches with an interesting trim and prancing horse motif (most likely part of a family crest) on the lid of the box used pen nibs etc. The two heavy glass inkwells are in good condition but one has a shoogally (as we say in Scotland meaning loose) lid which is any easy fix. There is also a stand for a pen. I particularly love the claw feet. A Unisex item.
