This is a wonderful hand painted enamel box--I think it is a calling card case. I would guess it is from the Edwardian age, give or take a decade, English or American. I can't tell if the enamel was applied over guilloche silver or embossed silver foil, but the effect is stunning. I tried to get images showing how the shimmer lights the sky and water, depending from which angle viewed. The sky has shades of lavender, pink, and yellow to dove gray. The enclosed inlet of water seems to glow with reflected sunlight. The detail and brush strokes warrant close attention and appreciation (see close up views). The enamel finish is perfect. The inside is gilded. There is not a single identifying mark on this piece, but it tests as sterling silver. The rim or edge is a modified Greek key design, deeply cut. The push button is black glass or a tiny onyx cabochon.
