This is a stunning late 19th century enamel button with foil paillons in fauve colors depicting a flower and butterfly--very unusual! The champleve enamel rococo border is familiar, but the artistic use of hand-cut foil and faint hand painted grasses is one of the best I have seen. It may even be unique--some artisan's end-of-day experiment--at least I have not seen it before! It measures 1 & 1/4" medium in excellent condition.
