We are thrilled to offer this magnificent example of a Victorian cotton reel holder. This is just one from a fabulous collection of similar age brass spool stands that we have been lucky to acquire from a sewing collector.
This is a stunning and VERY sturdy example. Dating from the last decade of the 1800s, this would have taken pride of place on sewing table. This large example is made of substantial 9th century brass, of a quality that you would struggle to find now. We have proffered to leave its original patina but of course it would polish up beautifully.
This handsome example stands on three pad feet and is made of a central tuned column with two circular tiers. The bottom tier is larger in size it holds 4 solid brass shafts to hold your cotton reels. The next tier is smaller in diameter but again house four upright solid brass shafts to hold another 4 reels. At the top of the central column is the original brass edged pin cushion of purple cotton velvet with a few original pins.
Size: 9 inch tall (23 cm), the circular base tier diameter of 5 1/8 inch (13.5 cm).
Condition: Good all original uncleaned condition. Age wear/rubbing to the velvet pincushion. There is a small manufactured rectangular slot in the collar of the pin cushion? Not too sure what the function was or what if anything is missing? A very slight lean to one of the bottom spool shafts (minor).
A really super and quite scarce example for your sewing room, folk art/primitives display.
