This fabulous genuine Victorian folk art portrait was produced in England during the early Victorian period circa 1837 to 1840. The painting features a very charismatic male sitter seated, facing left. He is wearing the most wonderful top hat called The Cumberland or William tell that was just about going out of fashion by 1840 ! Notice also the way in which the artist has painted the pattern of his six button waistcoat... amazing! The gent reminds us of the famous English Civil engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806 to 1859).
The watercolor painting on card is housed behind glass in a later 19th century frame. One of the most unusual and decorative features is the wood mount! Something we have not seen before, it really adds something to the frame. We love the woodgrain, and cannot help but wonder who this gentleman was.!
This is a charming original 19th century portrait in a decorative frame, it will display excellently. Perfect for anyone who loves 19th century folk art and antiques.
Measuring: Frame width 6.75 inch (17.5 cm) by height 8.25 inch (21 cm). Aperture with 3.75 inch (9.5 cm) by height 5.25 inch (13.5 cm).
