We are delighted to offer this 1810-20 regency period sarcophagus shaped box that originated in France from the Palais Royal shopping area of Paris.
The warm and mellow caramel colored wood is the eye catcher here! Combined with the typical French stringing and a great patina. To the lid is a stained black border with inset cut steel jewel decoration. The gilt gesso ball feet and decorative brass swing handles are the final flourish of decorative appeal! We adore the original interior mirror complete with ageing/ blooming and of course the original Regency pink paper lining that you will find on such examples. This Empire period box has even retained the original green lining to its base.
Measuring: Width 9.5 inch (24 cm) height 4.5 inch (11.5 cm). Depth 6 inch (15 cm).
Condition: Not pristine. This antique box is missing its key. The interior mirror has an historic crack to the bottom right corner. There is a small corner of stringing missing to the bottom corner of the left side. There are some minor wear nibbles to the black wood bottom edges. The brass handles are a possible replacement. The box tips when lid fully opened.
