Mid 19C Hemmingbird Clamp sewing tool. The decoration on this hummingbird is identical to the clamp by Charles Waterman, dated 1853, as shown in the Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries book by Nerylla Taunton.
It is 5 inches in length. The bird is 3 3/4 inches from beak tip to tail end.
The screw clamp is in good working order. Press on the tail spring and the beak opens to grasp the hem ribbon or other material. The pincushion Is well attached but a bit out of shape. The metal is bronze.
