If you are looking for an adorable French closed-mouth Bebe in a lovely antique dress, this beauty is simply unforgettable. Emile Douillet managed the Jumeau factory between 1892 - 1899 and on his arrival, he inspired the production of his very own signature Jumeau bebe. This example is one of the most appealing ED Jumeaux I have ever seen, in the super-rare and highly desirable size 1! We love her big blue paperweight eyes, strong French style brows and her plump, bee-stung lips. Not to mention her fully jointed Jumeau body! One of a kind, this sweet French girl will please even the toughest customer.
We are offering her with the opportunity to put her on layaway for up to 6 months!
She has a wonderful poured bisque socket head with blue paperweight eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, multi stroke brows, a closed mouth with a slight smile, and pierced ears. She stands at 10” on her original fully jointed wood and composition body, and wears a light brown French human hair wig.
She is dressed in a vintage blue satin dress, with a pleated bodice, a gathered skirt with two tiers of pleated ruffle at the hem, trimmed with antique lace at the collar with white faux flowers, the sleeves, and between hem ruffles. Underneath, she wears a pair of antique pale pink silk pantaloons with lace trim. On her feet are a pair of antique white net stockings and modern-made tan leather shoes. On her head is an antique blue silk bonnet with lace trim and a spray of silk flowers on the brim; in her ears are her original gold-tone and turquoise glass stone earrings.
MARKS: E.1.D [incised, back of head]
CONDITION: There is a hairline on her forehead, which is visible in pictures, but covered by her wig. The head is otherwise free of any chips, cracks, or restoration. The face is wonderfully molded and painted for a classic Jumeau face. Her original blue paperweight eyes are crisp and clear, with good pupil alignment. Her original fully jointed wood and composition body retains much of its original shiny finish, but has been touched up at the arms, legs, and joints. Her vintage costume is excellent, and fits her well, for an excellent cabinet-ready presentation. A size 1 Emile Douillet Jumeau would normally book for around $5500, but because of her hairline, we are selling her for much less! Don’t let her innocent face become just a memory!!!
