This delightful darling is just as sweet as they come! She is a fine example of what the German doll industry had to offer during the heyday of the character doll era (circa 1910-1917). This Simon & Halbig 1299 mold has wonderfully molded chubby cheeks, with the cutest dimple on her chin. She’s all dressed up in a gorgeous antique white dress and matching bonnet, with baby blue accents. What a darling little character girl she is!

She has a bisque socket head, with blue sleep eyes, real upper and painted lower lashes, fine red-brown feathered and textured brows, an open mouth with two upper teeth, pierced ears, and a dimpled chin, set into a classic chubby character toddler face. She stands at 23” on an antique fully-jointed slant-hipped wood and composition toddler body, and wears a soft ginger red mohair wig.
She is dressed in an antique white cotton dress, with an overlapped rounded collar, a two tiered skirt, lace trim at the collar, sleeves, and both skirt hems, and a light blue picot-edged sash. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton half slip and pantaloons trimmed with matching lace, and an antique white cotton chemise with lace trim and silk ties. On her feet are a pair of antique white knit socks and black oilcloth shoes. On her head is an antique white cotton bonnet with openwork and light blue ribbons; in her ears are a pair of earrings with faux pearls, blue bell flowers, and faux pearl drops.
MARKS: 1299 / SIMON & HALBIG / S&H / 12 [incised, back of head]
CONDITION: Generally excellent. The bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, with the most particular attention paid to her painting and modeled-features. The original sleep eyes have been properly reset and sleep well with their full original hair lashes. The wood and composition body has held up well over the years, with typical age wear, particularly at the joints. The costume is in great condition, with some minor holes and other barely noticeable areas of wear. A wonderful rarer character girl on a chunky toddler body; she is very desirable to collectors of antique character dolls. This is an uncommon mold with so much appeal and in great condition! Be the first one in your doll circle to own one of these beauties!
