I present a wonderful Bebe of the of the late 1800s made by Jumeau with a head produced by the German firm, Simon & Halbig. This gorgeous girl is even stamped “Tete Jumeau” on the back of her head! Just one look at her dewy complexion, her gorgeous deep blue sleep eyes with string lashes and I guarantee it will be love at first sight or as the French would say "Le Coup de Foudre!" She is dressed in a festive red white and green plaid dress, ready for the holidays! Though she is the result of French and German parentage, she is nonetheless and exquisite beauty deserving of a place of honor in any collection.

***This beautiful girl is available on layaway! Give us a call anytime at 718.859.0901 to hear an in hand description of her excellent condition, or you'd like to discuss layaway terms.***

She has a bisque socket head with deep blue paperweight eyes, string upper lashes, painted lower lashes, feathered and textured brown brows, an open mouth with four upper teeth, and pierced ears. She stands at 21” tall on her original, labeled, French fully jointed wood and composition body, and wears a brown human hair wig in two braids.

She is dressed in an antique red, white, and green plaid cotton dress, with a large ruffled bib collar, with white lace overlay at the top, lace trim around the ruffle and at the sleeves, a maroon velvet bow at the collar, and a maroon silk sash at the waist. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton full slip with broderie anglaise, and a pair of white cotton pantaloons with lace trim. On her feet are a pair of maroon net socks and modern-made black leather shoes. On her head is a red straw hat with rust-colored ties. A delightful overall presentation!

MARKS: DEP / 8 [incised, back of head]
TETE JUMEAU [stamped, back of head]
12; BEBE JUMEAU / Diplome d’Honneur [paper labels, back of torso]

CONDITION: Excellent. The bisque head is free of any cracks, chips, hairlines, or restoration, and features top quality painting and modeling of a classic dolly face, as well as a desirable “Tete Jumeau” stamp. One of the ears has part of an earring stuck inside. The blue glass eyes sleep well with good alignment, and are shiny with a deep blue color. The string lashes are thick and intact. The original Jumeau body has many areas of touchup, but retains its original Jumeau paper labels. The pull-string crier no longer functions, and the strip around the chest has been replaced with a high-quality faux leather. The costume is good, with some areas of repair and age wear. A rarer doll, she commands a lot of respect for her loveliness and poise! Closed mouth DEPs are rare and they also represent a collaboration between French and German Doll manufacturing in the late 1800s and early part of the 20th century. It is generally accepted that Simon & Halbig produced the DEP heads for Jumeau.

A really adorable charmer in a lovely costume and perfect display-ready condition. Don't let this be the beauty that got away!
