A prolific supplier of bisque doll heads, and a prolific supplier of doll bodies, Francois Gaultier and Eugene Gesland were frequent collaborators on fine French dolls. This girl is a fabulous example of their collaboration, with her wonderfully molded bisque F.G. scroll head, and her desirable cloth and composition Gesland body! This girl is also noted for her resemblance to the popular Bru Jeune Bebe, but she has her own adorable disposition! She looks so thoughtful, so intelligent, with that far-away contemplative look... What a charming young Mademoiselle this particular Gaultier is, in her lilac and black lace frock, and fabulous velvet feathered hat! She’s an absolute delight, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!

She has a bisque socket head, with blue paperweight eyes, bold painted upper and lower lashes, thick feathered light brown brows, a closed mouth with large “bee-stung” lips, a dimpled chin, and pierced ears. She stands at 26” on her original stamped Gesland body, with a composition shoulder plate, straight wristed lower arms, and lower legs, and a cloth torso, upper arms, and upper legs. She has her original cork pate, and a gorgeous strawberry blond human hair wig, styled in curls with bangs.

She wears a sweet lilac dress, covered all over in black lace overlay, with a pleated skirt, a lilac waist sash with big bows and another sash across the bodice, as well as small pink silk roses in several places on the sleeves and skirt. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton half slip with pin tucks and a scalloped and embroidered hem, an antique white cotton undershirt with lace trim, and a pair of antique white cotton pantaloons with lace trim. On her feet are a pair of antique white net socks and black leather shoes with black and faux pearl rosettes. On her head is a large navy blue velvet hat, with a gathered brim, a spray of purple silk flowers, a large black feather, and black velvet bows and ties; in her ears are a pair of earrings with large purple-toned faux pearls and faceted black glass beads. An absolutely fabulous presentation!

CONDITION: The bisque head has one rebuilt earlobe, but is otherwise free of any cracks, chips, or hairlines, and is wonderfully molded and painted into the classic and desirable F.G. Scroll face. The original body has had the fingers repainted, and the cloth body has extensive discoloration and some moth holes, but is in otherwise great and sturdy condition, with other minor age wear and much of its original shiny finish. The costume is in great condition, with some moth holes in the lace overlay, and the shoes have been repainted to hide age-related scuffing. This wonderful Bebe is so adorable! A real little cabinet ready charmer with that certain “Je ne sais quoi!”

*Please note that the price shown for this doll was calculated by factoring in the doll’s condition carefully. The doll’s condition is described fully in the "Condition" paragraph above. Any damage or flaws are carefully evaluated as to the manner in which they may reduce the retail value of this item. Unless there is some major issue we overlooked in the condition report, we decline to entertain any proposals for price reductions due to a less than perfect condition report. Most dolls that are over 100 years old will have encountered issues over the years and perfection is rare when it comes to antiques.
