Antique Victorian 14K Gold Mourning Ring - In Memorium Braided Hair with Natural Pearls | Initials M B - Dated 1897
Dating precisely to 1897, may I offer this 14K Rose Gold (hallmarked as pictured) mourning ring. To be honest, the ring looks to have been made from a small pinback and a wedding band - note the lead solder used to join the 2 pieces together. The top piece is a nice one, measuring 3/4" x 9/16" and holding braided brown hair under curved glass surrounded by creamy grey natural pearls. No chips to the glass, no replacement pearls. The gold ring has a width of 1/4" and is sized 7 on my sizer; weight is 5.3 grams. The inside engraving that I can make out reads MJ along with a word I can't read (possibly a partial month) 1897. In terms of looks, this is a really nice In Memorium ring with a few light surface marks and a join visible on the inside shank. Presents beautifully.
