Vintage Victorian Revival Made in Italy Italian 18K Gold Pin Brooch - Cupid with Bow and Arrow

Dating to the 1940s or so, the first time I spotted this design was in an auction. The pin was marked Shreve & Co and was a design that I fell in love with immediately. Well, being Cupid, I suppose that makes sense. From a consignor of mine, may I offer the same pin only this time, the pin is marked with just an Italian stamp - not a maker name. Fashioned from 18K Yellow Gold (hallmarked as pictured), this Emissary of Love has drawn his bow and is about to shoot an arrow. The pin is quite detailed, angular and with a chiselled design on the wings - you will feel texture with your fingers when you caress this piece. And yes, Cupid has a band over his eyes - Love is Blind appears to be the sentiment. Size is about 2-1/8" high x 1-9/16" wide. Weight is a solid 15.7 grams. Condition is wonderful with, yes, the lower half of the pin showing tarnish - gold will do that after 50 years. Safety catch closure to hold the pinstem in place. Just needs a light polish and it's ready to wear! Absolutely wonderful!
