This could be your lucky medallion.
A unique creation by Kenneth Jay Lane, this pendant necklace showcases a combination of lucky Chinese characters and lotus flower motifs. Set against a ridged gilt border that looks like a coin's.
KJL made a series of Asian-themed jewelry in the 1980s, featuring dragons and Asian characters and rednered in cream and green lucite against textured goldtone metal. We've come across the dragon motif a couple of times, but this is the first time we're seeing this Asian medallion design, and it's gorgeous.
The medallion has the Asian motifs in molded, peek-a-boo cream lucite. The Chinese characters (which we're told are considered fortunate symbols) are in the center. Around these is a beautiful pattern of lotus flowers, etched, with curling leaves between them.
The lucite round is set into a gilt frame that has the look of edges of a real coin. The gilt border has decorative loops for the chain.
The medallion is about 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" round. With the chain, the necklace is about 24" long. The necklace has a large lobster clasp. It has a Kenneth Lane logo within an oval cartouche hangtag.
The necklace is is good condition. The lucite medallion is in great shape, with the details still intact, and te cream lucite still bright. The gilt frame around the medallion has rich goldtone and is in great shape as well. The chain shows age appropriate wear, with some paleness.
