From an estate in Central Pennsylvania is a delicate scherenschnitte or paper cutting featuring a pair of birds sitting in a tree. This local folk art is in good vintage condition and is signed by the artist S Gilpin. Sandra Gilpin is recognized by Early American Life magazine as one of the top 200 crafts creators in the United States. The paper cutting is mounted under glass in a vintage brown-colored frame. Please examine the photos as they are part of the description. The frame measures 13 1/2 inches by 12 inches. This is a lovely accent picture that will display lovely in most decors.

Scherenschnitte, which means "scissor cuts" in German, is the art of paper cutting design. The type of art tradition was founded in Switzerland and Germany in the 16th century and was brought to Colonial America in the 18th century by immigrants who settled primarily in Pennsylvania.
