This is a garniture set of three Bohemian Czech mantel vases. The date is circa 1890.

The smaller vases are 8 ¾” high and 3 ½” wide at the upper belly. The larger vase is 11 ½” high and 5 ¼” at the belly.

The glass is a very pretty soft green and you can see right through it; when you hold up a vase, you can see your fingers on the other side. The glass is also quite light.

The artist painted the necks and round foots in a darker green. Between the two green painted areas you can see the true green of the glass. On the front of each vase there is a hand painted game bird with long tail feathers among grass and greenery, the larger vase shows a roaster, hen and chicks. There is some raised gold beading. Where you don’t see the landscape scenes is the true green opaline color.

The rims are flat with the remnants of gold trim. On 19th century glass, it is rare to see the gold trim intact; just too many years have gone by. The rims have a few tiny pinprick nicks; too tiny to see in the photos, however they can be felt with the fingertips. There are no chips or cracks. Inside the larger vase in the neck there are straw marks, which is part of the glassmaking process when using a wood fired kiln; one straw mark is a separation in the glass.

The bottoms are slightly indented, round, and mostly smooth to the touch. There is some paint residue on the bottoms.
