This is an English white opaline art glass vase. It is hand painted, probably during the Woman’s Art Movement (WAM); the women painted porcelain and glass mostly. The maker of the glass and the artist that painted the glass are unknown. The date is circa 1890.
The vase is 8” high and 4 ¾” wide at the upper belly.
The artist painted a scene of three Dutch children on a rural lane. My assumption is the scene is from a novel written in the 19th century, similar to the famous “Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates.” In the background are farm buildings. Circling to the back of the vase is the dark green of a forest.
The rim is round. The pontil is round and polished.
There are no chips, nicks or cracks. There is wear to the color around the rim and foot. I think there was gold trim at one time, but it is over 90% gone.
