This is a rare Daum Nancy art glass vase. There is no visible signature, however there may be the remainder of the one that is Daum Nancy with the cross between that dates the piece to 1890 to 1895. However, the characteristics of the glass date the piece to this time period without having a visible signature.
I sold a similar glass vase and the listing may still show in my shop as Sold. You can find it by doing a search within my shop for Daum, or RL-1132, or scrolling to the last page of listings in my shop. The sold Daum vase has cameo Cross of Lorraine and thistles on it. I mention this because the collector is ecstatic with the acquisition. The Daum cameo glass from the late 1800s is difficult for collectors to find.
Daum created the cameo by cutting down the glass and leaving the designs as another layer of glass. Over this top layer the colors are created. On this specific vase, the detail is extraordinary. On the front of the vase there is a deep throated white lily and two smaller lilies. The leaves and stems are detailed in gold and black, which shades to bronze in some areas. The back of the vase has a lily bud on a tall stem with a few leaves. Around the rim the glass is layered as drips with touches of gold. You can see the layered glass by looking through the inside to the outside.
The color of the glass is green. In a strong light the color is bright. In a more neutral light, the color is an emerald-forest green.
The glass is created to look like water, with ridges and waves and circular flat spots. The wavy patterns are a second layer; the first layer shows as the flat spots.
The vase is 10 5/8” high. The mouth is 4 5/8” by 3”.
The rim is flat and painted with gold. There are a few tiny pinprick nicks, and to be expected for this age. There is some wear to the gold, a little bit of flaking that is a tiny bit rough on the fingertips.
On the right side there is what I think is a burst air bubble that can be felt on the inside but not the outside. The bottom shows a ring of wear from age. There may be some slight fading to the colors of the botanicals in some small areas.
The pontil is indented, rectangular, not polished, and treated like the rest of the glass. If there is a remainder of a signature, look in this area.
The book you want to own is “Daum – Masters of French Decorative Glass” by Clotilde Bacri.
