This is an English art glass paperweight match striker, circa 1890.
The strikeris 2 1/8” high and 2 ¾” wide at the belly.
The glass is clear and the outside is threaded. The bottom is ground flat. The inside has an inner small bowl to hold matches. The top is banded in sterling silver and marked by the silversmith. I believe the marks put the silversmith in the Birmingham area.
There is a black line on the inside rim of the sterling mouth, perhaps enamel, and again on the top outer edge.
In the photos there is a brownish cast to parts of the glass. There are a few tiny air bubbles. There is a small nick on the bottom edge. There are a few tiny spots of abrasion to the outer threading. There are no major chips, nicks or cracks. The bottom shows a lot of scratches due to sitting wear.
I did not try to clean the striker or polish the sterling. I leave that to the buyer.
