2 Small Bowls Mayer China Beaver Falls PA Restaurantware Linden Red - image 1 of 13

This is a very nice pair of Mayer China restaurantware chili or cereal bowls. They are in the red Linden pattern and somewhat difficult to find. The bowls have the manufacturer’s back stamp on them. This mark was first used in 1928 and then later on. The bowls were made to be very durable for use in restaurants.

The bowls are in good vintage condition. There is some wear on the finish around the rims.

They measure approximately 5 3/4” in diameter and 2 1/4 deep.

Company History:

Joseph Mayer, an English immigrant, and his brother Arthur founded a pottery importing business in New York.  Joseph moved to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and with his brother, Ernest founded the Mayer China Company, Ltd., in 1881.  It later incorporated as the Mayer China Company.

An 1896 fire destroyed the plant.  A new building was constructed.
Joseph Mayer retired in 1921, turning his ownership in Mayer China over to his sons, Arthur and Walter.  The brothers introduced the manufacture of vitrified china.

Arthur and Walter Mayer retired in September 1964, selling Mayer to the Shenango China Company of New Castle, Pennsylvania.  Interpace bought Shenango China and Mayer China in 1968, selling off the Shenango plant to Anchor Hocking in 1979, thus severing the connection with Mayer.

Mayer took control of Wallace China Company in 1980, closing it one year later.

Interpace sold Mayer to Investors in 1979.  The investors sold Mayer to the Syracuse China Company in 1985.
