Child’s Purple Transferware 3-piece Tea Set

This early childs tea serving set was originally part of a complete children's tea service. Comprised of a covered teapot with inset dome top lid, lidded sugar box and cream pitcher, the set is transfer printed in a rich purple or mulberry. The teapot stands 4-1/2 inches tall, the sugar stands 4 inches tall and the creamer stands 3-3/4 inches.

It is decorated with a swirl of ribbons and scrolling, a classical design finished with a greek key and bead border. The set is unmarked. According to Lorraine Punchard’s book ‘Playtime Pottery and Porcelain from the UK’ (page 151), the pattern name is Viennia and and the maker was Hulse Nixom and Adderley, a pottery maker in the Staffordshire region of England from 1853-1868.

The set is in great condition with a small old shallow chip on the edge of the teapot lid, a fleabite inside the sugar lid and no other chips cracks or repairs. Typical manufacturing imperfections adding to the authenticity and charm of an early miniature set.
