A fine mid century abstract expressionist figural painting by American artist Robert Phillip Anderson (1926-2005). Anderson was born in Perth Amboy, NJ, and after moving to Sewaren, NJ, he immediately began four years of naval service as a radio operator aboard the USS Philippine Sea and accompanied Admiral Byrd on his 1946 expedition to Antarctica. Upon his return, he graduated from Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. As an artist, he won First Prize in the New Jersey State Exhibit and Best of Show the following year. He established his studio in the family home on Old Road in Sewaren. His many drives into New York City for work made him well known for his abstract cityscapes, two of which were purchased by comic legend Sid Caesar.
