A fine modernist still life with geraniums in a stoneware vessel by American artist Calvin J. Libby (1931-1998). Libby was born in Stowe, Vermont, studied at the University of Vermont, The New England School of Art in Boston and later at the Museum of Modern Art in Trier, Germany, where he studied while serving in the armed forces. He returned to NYC, where he became the Art Director of an advertising agency, moved to Nashua, NH, becoming the Art Director for Harold Cabot Advertising Agency in Boston. He eventually became a freelance artist and won many awards, including The New Hampshire Art Association's Currier Show and their summer show at Mt. Sunapee,The Annual New England Show of the Cape Cod Art Association, and The Copley Society of Boston's Robb Sagendorph Memorial Prize.
