A great example of a large African wooden carved Baule mask, also known as a Goli mask, used in tribal dances during harvest festivals, in processions to honor distinguished visitors, and at the funerals of important figures. The circular face represents the life-giving force of the sun and the horns symbolize the great power of the buffalo. The Baule were a tribe that originated in the present day Ivory Coast area in Africa many years ago. This mask dates to the early to mid 20th century and is in good overall condition, with minor splits, imperfections, and expected wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 54 ½” H x23 ¼” W x 3” D. Ref:8
