A fine French ormolu bronze inkwell, featuring a mermaid figure and seashell motif, with two glass inserts under hinged covers, and scrolled foliate decoration, inscribed “P. Mengin” (Paul Eugene Mengin, 1853-1937) and stamped with the F. Barbedienne foundry mark (founded in Paris in 1838 by Ferdinand Barbedienne). Very good overall condition, with some gilt losses, and general surface wear and light soiling. One of the glass inserts has a fleabite chip on the lip. Dimensions: 8 ½” h x 15” w x 8” d.
