A leatherbound book titled “New American Practical Navigator” by Nathaniel Bowditch, Sixth Stereotype Edition published in 1826 by Edmund M. Blunt, New York. The first two pages show ink inscriptions by the book’s original owner, Nathan Daggott, followed by a fold out map of the Atlantic Western Ocean before the title page. 617 numbered pages, not including additional advertising pages at the end of the book. The book is in fair overall condition, with considerable foxing and discoloring on many pages, dog ears, small page tears, and other imperfections and expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 8 ⅞” h x 5 ⅜” w x 2 ¼” d.
This book was considered an important rework of John Hamilton Moore’s “The New Practical Navigator” first published in 1772, which was the most popular navigational text of its time.
