This is one very realistic appearing French Bulldog door stop. It is cast iron. We believe it was made by the Hubley Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, due to the great detail and skilled craftsmanship. We do not want to open it to look for markings, because the original screw to do so is under original paint (See our photo with the Pink Xs pointing to the painted over screw head on the dog's left side).
SIZE: This doggie weighs just under 5 pounds before packing - strong enough to hold any door! Height is approximately 8 inches from the floor to the top of the higher ear.
CONDITION: What an expression ! like a real, live one! The sculptor who created the original did a wonderful job bringing out the adorable personality of this darling breed of dog, in addition to the physical structure. There are NO cracks, splits, or metal damage. There are no break or repairs. Please look at the seams: they are tight and edges are very close with only minimal gaps and NO filing showing.
PAINT: PLEASE LOOK AT OUR PICTURES - Excellent with some paint chipping but not terribly distracting: smaller flakes overall. This dog is very realistic with a mostly black head and white body. There is a bright white base coat (primer) under old paint (black and white that is yellowing from age). The yellowish old white does not fully cover the white primer coat underneath it.
IMPORTANT: There are some chipped areas that appear to have been "touched up" by white paint - not terribly distracting, but this is the way this is.
IMPORTANT: The eyes are a realistic dark brown, not the yellowish glaring eye color usually found on these doggies. The collar was never painted a different color.
