The Northwood glass company was known to produce many different shapes in the assorted opalescent glass colors. One of the Northwood glass company’s very popular novelties first produced in 1905 became known as the bushel basket and was introduced in the colors of blue, white and canary. The company later marketed this shape in custard, as well as numerous carnival glass colors; both in the round and octagon shapes. This nice example in blue opalescent stands 5 5/8” tall to the top of each handle and spans 4 7/8” across from handle to handle. The standard company logo can be seen in pictures of the bottom. The basket shows no sign of damage or repairs, I see no heat checks in either handle, and the inside shows no staining or residue from use. I will mention for accuracy that early opalescent glass will often exhibit interior bubbles and straw marks, not a detraction. A wonderful gift for that special person. Thank you.
