The Buckeye Glass Company began operations in 1878 in the town of Martins Ferry, Ohio by the entrepreneur Henry Helling. The company produced glass for a number of years only to realize financial strain, shortage of labor and destructive fires which ultimately caused operations to cease in 1896. The factory produced tablewares in both opalescent and cased art glass, as well as oil lamps and shades. A number of popular patterns emerged from the company including this example, bubble lattice. This line came in the usual colors of blue, white, cranberry and yellow canary in both the glossy and satin finishes. The always popular pattern has a beautiful lattice design covering the outer surface highlighted by the base color. The white opalescent lines on a clear background really sets this example apart from the crowd especially with the glossy finish. The celery vase measures 6 1/2” tall and 3 1/8” across the top opening. In factory original condition showing no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. I will mention for accuracy some possible minute scratching on the bottom of the inside, possibly due to utensils setting in the vase. No harm, mentioned for accuracy sake. A clear distinct opalescent pattern felt when touching the outside surface. Here’s a chance to find that elusive celery vase in a popular line of opalescent glass by a renowned company. I’ve included a number of pictures for your viewing.
