This mark is for Hiram N. Ballard of the famous Ballard family of potters. Hiram ran the pottery in Burlington in 1855 after buying the failed Nichols pottery. He was joined in 1856 by his brothers and the stamp changed to O.L. and A.K. Ballard. The "H.N. BALLARD" mark is one of the rarer marks by this pottery company.
