Alexander Chen was born in 1952 in Guangzhou, China. His love and talent for art developed early, creating his first series of drawings at the age of 4. Chen continuously nurtured his talent and vision, and at the age of 16 found a deep well of inspiration in Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days" resulting in a profound desire to travel. In 1968, also at 16, Chen moved to the Chinese countryside to pursue life as a farmer and grew to love and appreciate the beauty of the land, further developing his unique style of colorful Hyperrealism which is inspired by the artists of the Song Dynasty and their ability to faithfully render panoramic, detailed cityscapes and landscapes with hundreds of people and complex architecture in each painting. Finally, in the late 80's, Chen moved his family to San Francisco and began traveling his beloved adopted new country documenting the beautiful treasures of the United States, as well as the larger world.
