Antique British pearlware child's mug decorated in brown transfer. The pattern commemorates a 19th century peace movement founded by Elihu Burritt (1810-1879), an American known as "the learned blacksmith". Burritt organized the Brussels congress of the Friends of Peace in 1848, which was championed in England. The text is from Isaiah 2:2-4 "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation; neither shall they learn war anymore." Unmarked.
Has crazing typical of earthenware, some staining, a v shaped crack extending off the lip and through the base, and another crack extending off the lip near the handle.
Measures approximately 3 3/8 inches wide including the handle x 2 1/2 inches tall.
