A stunning set of vintage enamel and 18 karat yellow gold ladybird brooches; part of our diverse vintage jewellery and estate jewelry collections
These stunning, fine and impressive vintage brooches have been crafted in 18ct yellow gold.
Each brooch has been modelled in the form of a ladybird*; the three brooches vary in size.
The elliptical, dome-shaped body and pronotum of each beetle is embellished with segmented black hot enamel with plain gold borders.
The elytra of each ladybird have been defined with panels of red hot enamel, accented with three white 'spots'.
The head, antenna and six legs of each brooch have been modelled in 18ct yellow gold, and conjoin with the yellow gold setting.
These enamel vintage ladybird brooches secure to the reverse of each with a hinged pin and catch.
The underside of each brooch features the maker's mark 'OWC' and the 18ct gold fineness mark (750).
* The coccinellidae is more commonly known as a ladybird / ladybug. Most entomologists prefer to call them ladybird beetles as these insects can not be classified as true bugs. Culturally ladybirds have been a long interest of children and they are considered to be a 'good luck bug', where if sighted a wish it to be made, or its symbolic that a wish will soon be granted.
