An antique propelling pencil modelled as an Egyptian pharaoh. It is made from silver and has enamel detail. The base pulls off and the pencil section pulls out. There is also a propelling action by rotating the tip. Only a small amount of lead remains. The pencil is unmarked but tests as silver, there are some marks to the suspension ring, shown in close up. Such pieces became popular with the Egyptian revival and uncovering of Tutankhamun's tomb during the Art Deco period. This example has a suspension loop so can be used as a pendant or on a chatelain etc.
The propelling movement works but has aged and if you push the pencil fully into the body you will need fine tweezers to get it back out.
A lovely and increasingly scarce item.
