An early 20th century cow horn beaker with sterling silver mounts by the famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb. Both the rim and shield mount have hallmarks which are for Sheffield and dated for 1919 during the reign of King George V. The style is traditional with a tapered cow horn body and a slanted rim. The tones are fairly subdued but with some interesting variations to the reverse.
Condition
Normal age related minor wear to the body, and some natural flaws at the base, one just to the right bottom of the shield mount and another quite obvious just below the rim to the interior. Signs of old resin glue to the pins inside the silver rim and the pin heads to the rim exterior are not present.
