A beautiful Art Nouveau silver and glass jar dating around 1900. The silver frame has a hinged lid and decorative handle with a cornucopia basket. There are marks to the upper rim and a lower bar, aside the initials GD they are rather indistinct but one is perhaps a Dutch import mark. The metal tests as a high grade of silver. The style certainly fits with the item being French or possibly Dutch from the turn of the century.
The frame is formed of three classically styled women holding tambourines and the base struts are in a triangular format. The glass interior is removable and has a star cut base. There is no cut out for a spoon so the original purpose was perhaps as a very grand sweetmeat for (perhaps frozen) desserts.
